FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about how California unclaimed property recovery works.
How much does this cost?
Zero upfront costs. We only get paid when you do. Our fee is deducted directly from your recovery by the state. If we don't recover anything, you owe us nothing.
Unlike other firms, we also pay for any missing documents, and our mobile notary, so there are no out-of-pocket expenses at all.
How long does the process take?
Most claims are resolved in 8–12 weeks from the time we file with the state. This includes:
- Initial paperwork and notarization (1–2 weeks)
- State processing time (6–10 weeks)
- Check mailed directly to you
We handle all communication with the State Controller and keep you updated at every milestone.
Can I file the claim myself instead of using your service?
Yes, you can file directly with California's State Controller at claimit.ca.gov. It's completely free.
However, most people find it overwhelming. Wrong forms, missing notarizations, or incomplete documentation often lead to delays or outright rejections. Our 98% success rate comes from filing correctly the first time.
We also find additional claims most people miss. Our advanced data matching often uncovers multiple properties you didn't know existed.
How do I know this is legitimate and not a scam?
Great question. Here's how you can verify we're legitimate:
- Licensed & bonded in California – You can verify our license with the state
- BBB A+ rating – Check our accreditation
- 5.0 stars on Google – Read real client reviews
- The state sends you the check – We never touch your money
We never ask for upfront payment, banking information, or Social Security numbers over email. All sensitive documents are handled through secure channels only.
What happens if the state rejects my claim?
Rejections are rare with our service. 98% of our claims are approved because we file correctly from the start.
If a claim is rejected for missing documentation, we handle the appeals process at no additional cost. We'll track down any missing records and resubmit until it's resolved.
You only pay our fee if you ultimately receive payment from the state.
Will I owe any out-of-pocket costs?
No. We cover notary fees, document retrieval, and all filing costs. Our fee is a flat contingency deducted by the state from your recovery — if you don't get paid, neither do we.
Do I need to send any sensitive documents over email?
Never. Sensitive documents are collected through encrypted channels and our in-house mobile notary handles ID verification in person. We never request SSNs or banking information by email.
Can you help with claims for a deceased relative?
Yes. Estate and inheritance claims are one of our specialties. We help executors and heirs gather the required probate documents, death certificates, and beneficiary proof — and file the claim correctly the first time.
What if I'm not a California resident anymore?
That's fine. We file claims for former Californians who still have money waiting in the State Controller's database. You just need to verify your prior California connection — we walk you through it.
How will I be paid?
The State of California mails you a check directly. We never touch your money. Our contingency fee is taken out of the recovery by the state before they cut your check.
